Through an inclusive excellence lens, Dr. Sotto is responsible for evaluating and improving research processes and practices to reduce inequities; developing strategies to advance faculty affairs and faculty career development, satisfaction and diversity; and engaging leaders across our six schools of health sciences to create optimal organizational practices that advance faculty, research and learning environments.
Dr. Sotto joined Pitt Health Sciences directly from the Department of Medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine where she served as vice chair for faculty affairs and professional development and vice chair for diversity, health equity and inclusion. She also held leadership roles at the Indiana Clinical and Translational Institute, including chief diversity officer, codirector of workforce development, and director of All IN for Health, a program dedicated to improving the health of Indiana residents by promoting health research literacy, including a state-wide research volunteer registry.
A nationally recognized leader in her fields, Dr. Sotto’s scholarship includes faculty affairs and professional development, medical education and inclusive learning environments, organizational structures, and the intersection of health equity and research ethics. She has served as president of the Administrators of Internal Medicine and on the Board of Directors and as diversity and inclusion liaison for the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine. She is an active member of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education and the National Association of Medical Minority Educators and serves on the Association of American Medical Colleges’ affinity groups on diversity and inclusion, faculty affairs, and educational affairs.
Dr. Sotto earned an MBA, an MPS in health care leadership with a concentration in health policy, law, and ethics, and an EdD in higher education from the University of Denver. She is a native of Puerto Rico.
