Dr. Tasha Alston is an Assistant Professor in the Institute for Clinical Research Education and Director of Diversity Equity and Inclusion initiatives in the Division of General Internal Medicine (School of Medicine) at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Tasha Alston is a social worker and educational psychologist with over 25 years of experience in both fields.
Dr. Alston’s research interests combine both social work and educational psychology. Dr. Alston specializes in research and community work that focuses on fatherhood, African American fathers involvement in education, African American fathers in maternal health, equity in education, diversity, equity and inclusion, school, family and community partnerships, and strengthening families. Dr. Tasha Alston is the author of the book “ African American Fathers Involvement in their Children’s Education” (Lexington Books). Dr. Tasha Alston is also a Co-Editor of the new book “ Health, Parenting, and Community Perspectives on Black Fatherhood: Defying Stereotypes and Amplifying Strengths” (Lexington Books ).
Dr. Alston completed her doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Georgia located in Athens, Georgia. Dr. Alston also earned her master’s degree in social work from Clark Atlanta University located in Atlanta, Georgia and her bachelor’s degree in social work from Siena College located in Loudonville, New York.
