As an Assistant Professor, Dr. Gauvin's research focuses on health equity and access for underrepresented populations as it relates to the health sciences and clinical services.
Prior to her faculty appointment at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Gauvin was a Henderson Post-Doctoral fellow at the University of Vermont (UVM) where she worked to serve a growing transgender community. There she created a gender affirming voice program while simultaneously serving as the lead Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) on the craniofacial and cleft lip and palate team at the University of Vermont Medical Center. Her research focuses on health equity and access as it pertains to health care for underrepresented populations and her research has been supported by the National Institute of Health. She applies mixed methods to examine health care systems to identify barriers in accessing health care for underrepresented populations and to address how those barriers impact those populations to identify potential solutions to those issues. Dr. Gauvin is one of three chief editors for a new undergraduate research publication called The Intersection of Linguistics, Language and Culture Journal (ILLC).
