Mehret Birru Talabi M.D., Ph.D. (Epidemiology) is an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at the University of Pittsburgh and an Assistant Dean in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She founded and directs the Women’s and Reproductive Health Rheumatology Clinic at UPMC Magee Women's Hospital. She is the co-Principal Investigator of a NIH U54 center grant to establish the EMBRACE Center (Equity in Maternal and Birthing outcomes and Reproductive HeAlth through Community Engagement), as well as several NIH R-level and foundation awards. Through her health services research and clinical work, Dr. Birru Talabi seeks to improve reproductive health care and outcomes for women with autoimmune diseases and other chronic and complex illnesses.
She is also committed to medical education and works to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion through her role as Co-Director of the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
